Our Team
Dr. Jerry Jenks, O.D.
Dr. Jerry Jenks was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He grew up in Weston, Missouri, a small rural community in Platte County. He is a second-generation optometrist who began his career practicing with his father, Dr. Donald Jenks in Platte City, Missouri. Dr. Jenks graduated from West Platte High School before attending the University of Missouri in Columbia. After completing his undergraduate requirements, he went on to complete his Doctor of Optometry at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.
During his clinical rounds, Dr. Jenks became especially interested in Geriatric Eye Care and Vision Therapy. As a result, after graduation he joined his father's practice and began providing mobile eye care services to residents in nursing facilities as well as expanding vision therapy services to help children with vision related learning problems.
Dr. Jenks has a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of binocular vision problems that are associated with vision and learning, ADHD, computer eye fatigue, sports vision performance, post-concussion syndrome and acquired brain injuries. The prevention and early diagnosis of ocular disease is important to preserve optimal vision function throughout our lifetimes.
Nutrition counseling and supplements, dry eye therapy and testing for the early signs of macular degeneration and glaucoma are important services provided by Dr Jenks. His clinic also provides low vision rehabilitation services for patients who have experienced severe loss of vision due to these neuro-degenerative retinal diseases. These services include neuro-optometric vision therapy, syntonic light therapy, prismatic lenses and filters that compensate for binocular vision misalignment and enhance vision performance.
Dr Jenks is a member of the American Optometric Association, Missouri Optometric Association, Neuro Optometric Rehabilitation Association, International Sports Vision Association, College of Optometrists in Vision Development, College of Syntonic Optometry, Vestibular Disorders Association, Optometric Extension Program Foundation and the American Professional Society of ADHD and Related Disorders.
