We change lives one pair of eyes and one person at a time. We do this by going above and beyond in how we care for and serve others.

Voted Bay Area's "Best of the Best" and a "Family Favorite" for many years, we proudly continue to serve patients of all ages and abilities, from San Mateo County, including San Carlos to its many surrounding communities along the peninsula, inlcuding, Belmont, Redwood City, Menlo Park, Atherton, Palo Alto and Los Altos to the south and  San Mateo, Burlingame, Hillsborough and Millbrae to the north, as well as patients who come from cities all around the world.  

Since the 1950s, our office has built a solid reputation for providing quality personal vision care for each member of the family.

We focus on a unique emphasis of diagnosing and treating learning related vision problems, providing specific treatments to slow the progression of nearsightedness (Also called myopia control or myopia management) in children, and helping those with special needs, athletes who want to improve their performance, and those who have suffered a concussion or traumatic brain injury.

Dr. Hong is residency trained in pediatrics and vision therapy from the State University of New York and board certified in Vision Development and Vision Therapy by the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD). COVD is an international organization, which helps to educate, advocate and certify optometrists and therapist in developmental vision care and vision therapy. That's where her initials, FCOVD, come from as she is a Fellow of the College of Optometrist in Vision Development. She served on their board of directors for 11 years, and was then elected and has continues to serve on their International Certification and Examination Board for the past 6 years.


A popular national speaker, Dr. Hong provides lectures, workshops and in-services for patients, parents, educators, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, physicians, optometrists and others involved in the care of patients and students.

Dr. Justine Simon Bailey has a strong passion for changing lives through vision therapy and neuro-optometric rehabilitation. Her journey to becoming an eye doctor started during her undergraduate studies at the University of California, San Diego where she shadowed a vision therapy practice. Very early on, she developed a passion for treating patients with visual disorders such as strabismus, amblyopia, learning related vision problems, and acquired brain injury. Born and raised in San Jose, California, Dr. Bailey graduated from Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry (WUCO) in 2015 and completed her residency in Vision Therapy and Visual Rehabilitation at SUNY College of Optometry in 2016.


While in optometry school, Dr. Bailey was a strong leader and was heavily involved in the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD), serving as COVD Club 

President and Liaison for two years. During her residency, she continued her

 leadership role in the COVD as COVD Resident Liaison. She earned her Fellowship in the COVD in April 2019. In addition, Dr. Bailey enjoys volunteering to help underserved populations world-wide. She organized and participated in two optometric mission trips - El Salvador in July 2012 and Peru in June 2013 - through an organization called Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH). She has proudly received several awards including, but not limited to, the Who’s Who Among Students and Universities recognition, Gandhi/Silani Annual Scholarship for Clinical Excellence and Leadership, the Dr. Kim-Anh Nguyen Endowed Scholarship for demonstrating volunteerism with an underserved population, and the COVD Award of Excellence in Vision Therapy.

Dr. Cynthia Huang grew up in San Mateo, attending Aragon High, and then earned her undergraduate degree at University of California, Irvine. She extended her stay in Southern California to complete her doctorate in optometry at the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University. Dr. Huang has clinical experience seeing patients of all ages in community health centers, Veterans Affairs, and here at Family Vision Care, where she was an intern for three months during her last year of optometry school.

 

Dr. Huang provides comprehensive eye care and is board certified in the management of ocular disease. She is passionate about specialty contact lenses for irregular corneas and pediatric eye care, including vision therapy and myopia management. Her love of contact lenses stems from an interest in biomedical technology and being fit in orthokeratology herself in high school.

Dr. Julie Kim has been in private practice in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1999 and joined the Optometric Center for Family Vision Care and Vision Therapy team in 2000. She completed her undergraduate degree at UCLA and her doctorate at UC Berkeley, where she graduated with distinction.


Dr. Kim has extensive experience in primary vision care, which encompasses comprehensive eye examinations and the diagnosis, treatment, and management of eye conditions and diseases. In 2003, she became board certified to practice optometry in the District of Columbia and Maryland, where she had the privilege of working at the 

esteemed University Ophthalmic Consultants of Washington, helping to manage the

care of patients undergoing LASIK, cataract, and glaucoma surgeries. She is also experienced with the precision fitting of contact lenses and glasses and is fully certified to perform corneal refractive therapy (CRT). Her special interest in developmental and behavioral vision has led her to complete post-graduate studies in the fields of learning-related vision problems, strabismus, amblyopia, and traumatic brain injury.

Dr. Kristi Jensen, a native of the Bay Area, completed her undergraduate education at California State University, Hayward (now East Bay) with a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences in 2000. She then journeyed to the east coast and graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2004 with her optometric degree. After working in private practice for 7 years in the Seattle, Washington area her family moved to southern California where she served as the Chief of Vision Therapy Services, and Assistant Professor, at Western University of Health Sciences, College of Optometry for eight years. 


In practice for over 15 years, Dr. Jensen has extensive experience in working with her patients and mentoring her students while using rehabilitation to treat individuals with learning related visual dysfunctions, amblyopia, traumatic brain injury and those with special needs.

Dr. Emiko Vasquez knew she wanted to be an optometrist when she was in elementary school. After graduating high school in Fremont, CA , Dr. Vasquez went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree with Cum Laude Honors in Sociology with a minor in Biology at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA. While finishing her Bachelor’s degree, Dr. Vasquez was accepted as an early decision applicant to the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University. 

  

While in optometry school, Dr. Vasquez was active in leadership, acting as the treasurer of the private practice club, president of her third year class, and president of the Beta Sigma Kappa optometric honors society. She also pursued her passion for health care equality by volunteering at several community health clinics including Care Harbor, Special Olympics, and Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity.


Dr. Vasquez also has been honored to receive several awards including the Council of Regents Achievement Award for clinical excellence, Dr. Geraldine J. Sherman Memorial Scholarship for leadership, and the Vision Services Plan (VSP) and American Academy of Optometry Foundation (AAOF) Practice Excellence Scholarship.
