Our optometrists, Drs. Maria and Harvey Richman, and Dr. Kathleen Kinzley, are happy to fulfill all of your eye care needs. Comprehensive eye exams are available through the office six days per week.
Our eye doctors have taken a progressive approach to healthcare by integrating electronic health records and electronic medicine prescribing in their practice
he doctors have developed their office to provide specialty eye care to the community. Children as young as infants can be objectively examined, school aged children can be evaluated to rule out visually-related learning problems, and the visually impaired population can be offered help when they are told “nothing else can be done.”
Drs. Richman receive referrals from schools, nurses, doctors and other professionals from all over the state for their specific skills and styles. See special section on low vision.
Our Team
Dr. Harvey Richman, FAAO, FCOVD
He is a graduate of the New England College of Optometry where his education emphasized the evaluation of children with behavioral and perceptual difficulties. After several years of pediatric practice and research, Dr. Harvey Richman (NJ State License # 5114) became only the twenty-third doctor currently practicing in New Jersey to achieve the credentials of Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development.
This was immediately followed by earning the credentials of Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. After graduating, Dr. Harvey Richman earned the title of Therapeutic Optometrist from the state of New Jersey, allowing him to treat and manage eye disease with medicine. He has highlighted presentations on pediatrics, attention deficit disorder, "lazy eye," and autism.
Dr. Harvey Richman is a vision consultant to several private and public school districts. He provides lectures to teachers, nurses, and parent-teacher organizations on how to recognize and remediate those children with visual perceptual problems and developmental delays.
His dedication to helping the visual welfare of children and the needy has rewarded him with the 1997 Young Optometrist of the Year in New Jersey. In 1999 he also received the Special Recognition Award for his work with Visually Impaired Children from the NJ Society of Optometric Physicians. In 2006 he was again recognized with an award for his work with Infant Eye Care.
Dr. Maria Richman, FAAO
Dr. Maria Santullo Richman is a Low Vision and Vision Rehabilitation Optometrist. (NJ State License #5063) A graduate from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, she trained in a low vision externship at Philadelphia's Scheie Eye Institute. She is the founder and Chairperson of the Low Vision Committee of NJ Optometric Physicians.
In 1999, she received the Special Recognition Award from over 1200 of her peers for her Low Vision Work. She was the president of the Gold Key Honor Society at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. The credentials of Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry were granted to Dr. Maria Richman for completing research and practice in Low Vision.
She initially practiced in the shore area as a pediatric optometrist, then joined Allegheny General Hospital's Low Vision practice, offering her services to children and adults with visual impairments. Dr. Maria Richman was the Chief Optometrist for Resident Eye Care Associates, a hospital and nursing home-based Optometric service.
She was a consultant to the Western Pennsylvania School for the Blind and the Harmarville Rehabilitation Center. Dr. Maria Richman has presented research and lectured at many Optometric, Educational, and Rehabilitation conferences. She was involved with exclusive training and research with John Hopkins Low Vision Enhancement System. She is currently providing services as a vision consultant through the N.J. Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
Dr. Maria Richman was selected as one of the Top 50 Women in the Optical Industry for 2006. She was elected President of the NJ Society of Optometric Physicians in September 2013. Dr. Richman was the Chairperson of the American Optometry Association Vision Rehabilitation Section. She is very proud to be a part of Shore Family Eyecare near Lakewood, NJ. Dr. Kathleen Kinzley
Dr. Kathleen Kinzley is a New Jersey native, who grew up in Ocean County. She received her doctorate in optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, where she graduated cum laude. At Salus, Dr. Kinzley was a member of Beta Sigma Kappa, the optometry honor society, and SOSH, which provides vision care in underprivileged countries.
As an intern, Dr. Kinzley specialized in low vision at the William Feinbloom Vision Rehabilitation Center. Here she helped patients with limited vision regain skills in reading and mobility through vision rehabilitation.
She gained knowledge in contact lens fitting from Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. Prior to her studies at Salus, she earned a bachelor of science in biology and a minor in chemistry from The College of New Jersey. On her days off, she enjoys the local beaches, hiking, and kayaking.
